School leaders and teachers are in dispute with the Government over pay, after over a decade of wage erosion. Hard-working educators’ and leaders’ salaries have lost up to 20% in real terms since 2010, even as their workloads and responsibilities increase.

As a result, nearly a third of teachers leave the profession within their first five years on the job. About a third of school leaders resign within five years too – over half of whom quit the state education sector completely.

What’s more, the Government has refused to fund pay awards, further depleting our schools’ stretched budgets.

NAHT, the school leaders’ union, and the National Education Union are working hard to negotiate a deal with the Government for the fully-funded restoration of pay in schools, but these talks have not yet resulted in any meaningful offer. Teachers, school leaders, governors and parents are writing to their MPs, urging the Government to agree a deal with educators that gets our schools back on track. Click below to join them.
